Another beautiful Sunday at Edward's Greenhouse with the PAPI crew! Today, I wanted to find a more specific subject matter than last time. I struggle with my light colors in watercolor, so I chose some white orchids with some greenery behind them. I honestly was just so happy to be in this little oasis of a place in January! Outside its cold and grey, but in here life is fully awake and thriving--and warm!
I started sketching and getting the finer details worked out as there are these little bits of the orchid that I didn't want to miss. As I started getting into it, I was approached by a few of the members and decided to walk around and see everyone's work. Some incredible paintings were going on, as usual very nice folks too. I met a gentleman named Bernard who started to tell me about his colorblindness. He described how values are this thing because of this, and shared some of his work with me. It was awesome to see his point of view on contrast and value. He came by and commented on my orchids not having either. And he was right! So, as I continued to paint I decided at the end to add some of the thick black outlines like I used to use when I illustrated comic books. I was fairly happy with that and want to try something like that again.
