It's so cold out lately, its been hard to do plein air properly, but I found this nice scene outside in the snow. I have not really painted vehicles before, but this was not too difficult with the snow. I enjoyed the challenge, as I have not painted snow scenes except maybe once or twice before. I have a new paint palette with some fancy Daniel Smith paints now too. I recently got my vaccine booster and have not been feeling very good lately, so it was nice to get this. Buildings are hard too, but most difficult was the moving shadows in the snow. I used a warmer palette than I'm used to seeing with snow, where blues and greys are more heavily used. I ended up using a bunch of yellows and browns. It was a chance to explore a new and unfamiliar kind of scene and most importantly--I got to paint one last time before saying farewell to 2021. Reflecting on the year past was not hard, but looking forward is a little more uncertain than it used to be. Looking backwards is a strange kind of dangerous nostalgia that I want to be aware of for the coming year. We can't go back, after all.
