After several weeks of dealing with the stress of working through a pandemic, it is finally time to get back outside and paint. My plans to be more fruitful in plein air painting have not panned out so far, but I decided to make a quick trip to a local park in Boise and enjoy the outdoors. The clouds were incredible this morning, leaving me with little shadow/highlights. It didn't matter. It was a nice break from the grind and who doesn't love baby ducks and geese? Jerks, that's who.
Years ago, maybe back in 2016 or so, I watched two middle aged white women women and a young girl feeding geese bread at Ann Morrison Park. It was the strangest thing. Somehow the situation escalated quickly because the geese became a little aggressive with them, there were probably about a dozen, trying to get to the little girl with bread. The women then started to yell and get really scared, one of them swinging--with both arms--the entire loaf of bread at the geese. The other one grabbed the girl and stuffed her in their little SUV and drove off in a scared little huff. It was a rough day for them, something that to me as an observer, was really frustrating to see.
Today, though, no one was worried about the geese or the ducks. People were riding bikes, rollerskating/blading, skateboarding, walking, and enjoying themselves. Lots of teenagers who I assume were out of school for the time due to Covid responses. Because really, it's a Tuesday! Funny how much the world has changed in such a short time.
