Along with my Bestie, there are two other very good friends who I consider to be like sisters to me. For the first time in years, the four of us got together. They are my chosen kin, even though I am terrible about staying in touch. Somehow through the many years of calamity, changes, and misunderstandings we have managed to maintain relationships. Mostly, that is thanks to one of them being always way more responsible than the others. I love those girls through thick and thin, but ultimately we finally have this chance to reconnect.
On the way to the coast, I stayed a night in Bend, Oregon. Bestie coming up from Arizona/California way, Bend was a good meeting point. The town has grown in popularity, it has grown tremendously over the last two decades, I still remember it as being a pit stop on the way to Portland. Ralph Friedman's take on Bend in Oregon for the Curious is this: "...fairest city of the plains, gateway to a vast and varied recreational area, and lavish in it's number of motels. (The less expensive are off the main highway). The 25-m. Scenic Drive visits three of the city's four parks including Pilot Butte."
Bestie went for a bike ride and I found a place to paint on the river. A year prior, she rode Pilot Butte on her bike, giving it everything she had. She did amazing, but the tracking app she uses had an issue or something so it was almost like it didn't count. She didn't ride it again this time, but we have made many memories there over the years.
It was pretty cold, so I bundled up and settled in below a bridge and went for it on the Fluid hot pressed paper and Sakura Koi travel paints and aqua brushes. For whatever reason, I apparently didn't seem fond of using blues enough, but it was a good chance to do evergreens, which I hardly ever do. Even with the chilly air, I managed to get a little bit of a sunburn from this session!
