For years now, I've had a roommate or several, and it's been fucking awesome even if out of necessity. Perhaps it's the curse and joy of being a millennial, but it started as a two-part solution. Hubby went back to school about ten years ago, and there was an opportunity. I met these two young dudes at an arcade bar who were from the same shitty part of the state we were from. They were nerdy and uncomfortable, but enthusiastic and willing to do what they had to do so they could be their own people. One of them has gone on to be a wildly successful internet snake who can be found here: https://www.wobblypython.com/ . Fast forward through the twenty-tens and eventually twenties. We have taken on different roommates in different combinations. One of them, lovingly known as Doof, moved out to seek his true quest as a dad. Some people are born with dad energy, that's him. He recently got hitched to an awesome mother of four. Turns out his calling has been Dad-energy so hard for so long and he finally found his place, and it all seems to work out just right. They had a beautiful wedding, all on video so we could watch and enjoy even from thousands of miles away. As a very late gift, I decided to capture a moment in the church just before they were officially wed. I chose this scene because there were some truly incredible things happening. The sun was shining through stained glass, the bride wearing a long, beautiful veil that captured the glow of the yellow-orange sun rays, radiance illuminating from her. I don't usually paint people these days as often as I did making comics, but this was fun. It's fun to know the subjects in this special moment in a way that I hope translates to the painting Doof & K, know you're both beautiful should you ever read this. Cheers to the Adams' family and many happy years together, with pink vintage sinks and toilets 🥂
