No Swans at Swan Falls. May 17th, 2020.

Last day of this vacation, decided to go out to Swan Falls, outside of Melba, Idaho. I have heard of this place for years, but finally made it out. Instead of going down into the canyon, I decided to park by Dedication Point, which allows for one to hike to the edge of the rocks and look down. I hiked about a mile from there and settled on top of some rocks.

This area is part of the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. The environment is perfect for all the hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, etc. that thrive in this area. In particular, these magnificent rockfaces have lots of crevices and cracks that I saw many birds nesting in. It was awesome to get such a view and to really be challenged with the changing light in the canyon.

As usual, I had my Sakura Koi watercolors and water brush pens, I got a few more sizes. Something new, though, was trying to paint on Strathmore 400 series Tone Blue Mixed Media paper. This was really pretty fun, but it did require me to make adjustments to my approach. To get the lighter tones, out came some of the white paint, which is rarely used on watercolor paper for highlighting. I chose the paper for the overcast feeling of the day and to try something a little different since I probably won't be able to paint again for a while.
