Owyhee Front and Frozen Paint. Dec. 28th, 2020

Even when it's super cold outside, I apparently find the desire to paint. Mostly, I just needed to get out of the house and do something different. It's been about six weeks since I have been able to taste or smell anything and battling brain fog and headaches still almost daily. I went for a drive to try and find some magical little place to make me feel better. What I found was a place called Fossil Creek, west of the small town Oreana. I was met by a sign that says, "WELCOME TO THE OWYHEE FRONT" and I couldn't resist. Beyond the pale yellow ochre flora and pale grays of the foreground, the Owyhee Mountains were just beyond. Rich purple but foggy. The thick winter clouds were moving in a way that made the mountains elusive and difficult to capture. Even more difficult, however, was the freezing temperatures! My paint started to freeze as it was pushed from the aqua brushes, and the paint itself began to flake and take on a completely different life. It was clear that I needed to move along. My little hike back into the area I found was one of the more physically demanding things I have done in a while, so that part was cool, though tiring. While this trip wasn't very fruitful, I will be back.
