It is the beginning of a much needed week off work for me, and I am really trying to get out of a mental funk. Gas prices are soaring and finding nearby locations to paint has not been very inspiring for me lately. I decided to go for a drive and just look for an opportunity. Of course, I found it. Eastbound on I-84 I found some signs for a historical landmark called Bonneville Point, a near-Boise location preserved with some Oregon Trail-related landmarks.
I will preface with this--I did not actually paint anything. It was a little too cold and I was feeling a lot of anxiousness. When I arrived at the historical point/parking area, a car had appeared behind me and the guy started following me around at first when I got out of the car. This kind of thing is something I typically don't run into in such remote and random locations. I tried to give the guy a minute, and after about 5, he got back in his car and left. It took me a moment to realize it, but this area was used for dirt-bikes and related off-road vehicles like Jeeps. I had no idea what I was going to find out there and while it was beautiful, there was a lot of browns and greys without much in the way of contrast. I had found a few blossoming yellow desert flowers, and grabbed some photos of them for reference work later.
The most interesting and intriguing thing I found was these weird mattresses. While I haven't quite committed to doing anything with them yet, I found some inspiration in their very strange placement here. I have come across some strange desert trash in the few years I have been doing this, and maybe it's time to pay more attention. Later, it began to snow lightly and I decided to head back to my car with the intention of returning another time. There are several layers of this that I must explore.
