It's still been pretty cold, but I went shopping for some new supplies and I got some gifted to me over the holiday too. Nicer paints that are more expensive are intimidating for me to use mentally, sure, but I am also not familiar with some of the colors and how to use them effectively. I began looking for a good location to paint and settled on a patch of the Boise/Garden City greenbelt that has recently undergone some improvements and it's been just warm enough in the sun that my paint/water shouldn't freeze. After finding a sufficiently weird looking tree on the river, I took a seat in the sand and began to paint. I have moved away from using some of the aquabrushes and leaning heavily on a bigger floppy brush and a small jar of water. I was so used to using the sakura koi travel paints instead of the nice palette paints I have now been adding to my own paint tray. These two new challenges have proven difficult, but it is fun to try forcing myself to "level up" my skills. The finished product, again, not super happy with it's final piece but the experiences have been necessary to improve and try new things.
