Today, I was feeling some of the wanderlust but the weather was a bit cold and stormy. Spring is right around the corner, but its not quite here yet. I traveled past this odd little outcropping of land near Grandview, Idaho. It was designated at the Ted Trueblood Wildlife Area and claims to have lots of avian wildlife. I brought a smaller paper, a Speedball Fluid brand hot pressed finish paper which is smooth like vellum. and wandered into the wildlife area with my trusty backpack and supplies. The air was crisp, the swampy ponds dried up through the winter but the earthy smells were a treat. Ducks and a variety of birds were flittering around, socializing with one another. I found an old log, and plopped down. As usual, once I am settled and largely quiet for a while, the wildlife became very active. This is one of the many joys of Plein air painting for me, its like spying on the natural world and getting to be part of it. The Owyhee mountains were just beyond the clouds in the background, stirring up more rain.
