It's a new year and they say it will be better than last year, and of course I ask myself how it could get much worse. Then I remember that things can always get worse, and I am so thankful for the good things in life. I categorized 2019 as being the worst year for me, having lost so many different things to include one of my cats. 2020 was filled with dread and stress, but weirdly after getting Covid and surviving it, it was almost like a relief to just get it out of the way. On New Year's Day, hubby and I got a new kitten who is about 5-6 months old and we finally have him getting along well with the older kitty. Having that little boy has been a true joy, we should have done it sooner. With my new outlook on life, though it is still without taste and smell, I decided it's time to go paint.
This time, I went northeast of Boise to some place that is apparently known as Syrup Creek. It is...off-the-beaten-path area where I am pretty certain there is a community of people who do not want to really be found. Below is a photo where a hand painted sign says the following:
SYRUP CREEK TOTALS
Estab. 1876
Elevation 3800
Population 17
Zip 83647
Horse Population 28
Total 89,368
"NO!" Trespassing
I can tell you that I was extremely curious about this place, so I turned around and went back up the road and found a spot on the side of the road. Anyway, it was cold AF so I stayed in the car. I apparently left the electrical on for too long and ended up killing my battery. It was cold and I was without heat but I had warm clothes. I called my hubby to come save me but to be honest, I was super scared. The type of folks making these signs might not be very helpful if I needed assistance but alas no one drove by. My paints didn't quite freeze this time, but I really struggled to get the colors right. I needed to get more gray tones, but they escaped me and I ended up making everything a little too warm-toned.
