Remember how I mentioned that in about three days, Bestie and I can do more, see more, and have more fun than most people can in a week? Well, another one of those trips! I drove down to Cedar City, Utah where we met up for the night, Holiday Inn Express, baby! The next morning, we hit the road in our separate cars but it was pretty amazing. First, we went to Cedar Breaks National Monument, where I wish I had time to paint, but I took many photos and hope to re-visit them as paintings. After that, we stopped at the nearby Alpine Pond. I stopped for about 8 minutes to paint.
Next, we drove next to Coral Pink Sand Dunes outside of Kanab, Utah. We played around in the sand, which photos can do no justice. The coral pink color of the sand makes the greens of the sage and grasses seems almost four-dimensionally blue-green. I have never used hallucinogens but I imagine such an effect would be really mind-boggling if one were to go to such a place. Like Jim Morrison used to do in California but Coral Pink is extra, California dunes are basic.
We landed, so to speak, at Glen Canyon National Park on the border of Utah and Arizona. A lovely location, but we crammed a lot into the day. Like, so much. It was incredible. Bestie and I ate from our Jet Boils some freeze-dried dinners (I really remember the chicken and mashed potatoes). We talked religion and death by the campfire, reminding me of our middle-school selves. Hundred of miles and several decades have passed and we will have no idea what we're going to do when we grow up. We used to go to each other's houses and we would growing up talking about how we're going to live as adults. We've done a lot together, and moments like this where we can still go on adventures together truly are some of the happiest of my life. Alas, after our dinner Bestie and I went for an after-dark walk around the country-club style resort and, finally, settled into our respective tents and called it a night.
